Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupe, 1955
![]()
Aug.2010
Who doesn't know about the famous Uhlenhaut coupé with its landmark gullwing doors? Only two prototypes of this model were built, and it was and still is a formidable street car. The irony is that most people only had the chance to see it from behind. Back then, while the fastest BMW was capable of reaching 170 km/h, and the fastest Porsche, even up to 200 km/h, the Uhlenhaut coupé could speed at nearly 300 km/h. It surely caused a lot of amazement as well as jealousy.
The explanation, however, is simple. Underneath the bodywork is an enhanced 3-litre Formula 1 engine. Actually the two coupés were built for racing. Their intended mission was to participate in endurance races, such as the Mille Miglia or the 24 Hours of Le Mans. But Daimler surprisingly decided to retire from professional racing at the end of 1955, and the situation changed drastically.
Rudolf Uhlenhaut, an ingenious engineer in charge of the Mercedes racing department, rightly decided that it would be a shame to let the two cars sit idle to gather dust in a garage. As a result, the two 300 SLR coupés became his personal company cars. Today every automobile enthusiast knows what is meant by "the Uhlenhaut coupé," even though this was never an official designation. When Rudolf went to work in the morning, the whole neighborhood noticed it. Because the 300 hp 8-cylinder would send out a throbbing uproar. And there were limits to what the additional silencer could do to reduce the deafening noise of the side pipes. Rudolf Uhlenhaut really enjoyed driving the coupés, and he also had the skills to handle these beasts of power. Contemporary witnesses confirm that he was able to drive from Stuttgart to Munich in less than an hour. Given the increasing traffic congestion, this is something we can only dream about today.
If you want to see the original Uhlenhaut coupé, you have to visit the Daimler museum in Stuttgart, Germany. If you want to see it every day, however, just put our incomparably beautiful model on display in your cabinet.

Mercedes-Benz SSKL GP Deutschland 1931, #8
Limited Edition 4000

Aug.2010
One manufacturer dominated the racing scene from the mid to the late 1920s, and even in 1931. That manufacturer was Mercedes-Benz with its legendary supercharged models from the SSK series. The race cars of that period proved their performance in a variety of races. The Mercedes-Benz racers were called the White Elephants because of their overwhelming power and great size. 1931 became a very special year for the talented driver Rudolf Caracciola and his SSK. The Mercedes-Benz factory in Untertürkheim only provided limited support because of the worldwide economic crisis. In spite of that, Rudolf Caracciola, with his lightweight SSKL, achieved two sensational victories in 1931. Caracciolas greatest victory was undoubtedly the Mille Miglia on April 12-13, 1931. Soon after, the public was treated to his next triumph in a Mercedes SSKL. On July 19, Caracciola and his White Elephant achieved victory in the Grand Prix of Germany. The race was held at the legendary Nordschleife of the Nürburgring, also called the Green Hell. The drivers had to master 22 laps, a challenge of 501.8 km. Caratsch and his co-pilot Wilhelm Sebastian covered that distance in only 4 hours, 38 minutes, and 10 seconds, with an average speed of 108.3 km/h.

Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa, 1958
The Testa Rossa, literally "red head" in English, owes its name to the valve covers of its 12-cylinder engine being painted red. As one of the most hot-blooded and successful race cars of all time, it led Ferrari to win several Sports Car World Championships and three Le Mans victories (1958 / 60 / 61), among others. There is good reason that this car is one of the bestremembered classics in automotive history. With its prowess, its unique beauty and elegance, the Testa Rossa touched off a fascination that has stayed with racing enthusiasts around the world to this day. Sergio Scaglietti, an exceptionally gifted automobile designer, had Formula 1 in the back of his mind when he started his work on the body design. The distinctive front styling proved to be a trademark of his design, causing instant excitement. No less breath-taking were its extremely drawn-in front fenders. They were designed to give the Testa Rossas front drum brakes better cooling. Soon everybody in the international racing circles started talking about the Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa "Pontoon Fender".
A total of 19 vehicles were delivered to private racing teams, and four more were built just for the Scuderia Ferrari. 2009 sawMaranello hold a famous auction "Leggenda e Passione", where a 250 Testa Rossa "Pontoon Fender" was sold for 9.02 Million Euros (approx. 12.5 Million US Dollars). Is there better proof that the fascination about the Testa Rossa lives on today?
This CMC model features a impressively realistic-looking body and an impeccable finish in Ferrari
red. The unprecedented detailing is so complete that will raise the heartbeat of every collector.

The rise of the company "Audi" is undoubtedly one of the most fascinating stories in the 100-odd years of automobile history.
It began with one special name: August Horch. In June 1909, the top management of Horch decided that its founder August Horch had to leave the company. Undaunted by this twist of fate, August sought to launch a new automobile plant on his own. Only four weeks later, his dream virtually came true: The "August Horch Automobilwerke GmbH" was officially registered in Zwickau, Saxony on July 16, 1909. But the Horch plants took August to court, claiming exclusive use rights of the name "Horch" for themselves. August Horch lost the trial and had to find a new name. He wound up renaming his new plant Audi, the imperative case of the Latin verb "audire" meaning "Horch!" in German.
2009 marks the 100th anniversary of Audi. This is reason enough for CMC to introduce a real classic miniature: the Audi Front 225 Roadster. First presented to the public in 1935, the car proved to be a real sensation for its time. Sporty and graceful, its body was a feast for the eyes. The aerodynamic line management enhanced the charming sporty look of its overall configuration in particular. CMC offers this ravishingly beautiful hand-assembled miniature of more than 1,600 single parts in three different two-tone colour versions. Each colour combination brings out the glamour of this extraordinary model in a special way.
Celebrate with us 100 years of Audi.

The 1961 Formula 1 season came up with a completely new rule type. The racing teams had to switch their engines from 2.5 to 1.5 liters. Ferrari found itself in a very good position. They had developed a V6 mid-mounted engine with a 120 degrees cylinder angle and a maximum output of 190 hp. The new 156 F1 had a very unusual front design. So pretty soon, many people gave it the nickname Sharknose. Technically and ostensibly, the 156F1 was the most successful development in 1961.
The season ended for the Scuderia with a large success but also with a disastrous tragedy. Phil Hill became the first American Formula 1 World Champion. The German Ferrari star Wolfgang Graf Berghe von Trips, that led the ranking for most of the season, became involved in a deadly accident in Monza. Never before joy and teariness was that close on just one day.
Our three different models represent all different successful GP appearances of the 156 F1 during the 1961 season. As a matter of course, all three models will reflect the special features of the respective race.
Annotation: It is factual that no original Ferrari 156 F1 exists in the whole world. But after months of meticulous research and contacting countless Ferrari experts, CMC was able to get all necessary data for a harmonious model development. Thanks to that kind of knowledge about the car and its famous drivers, we are in a position to accomplish this mission impossible with true-to-the-original details and the well known CMC craftsmanship and quality

On the 12th of September in 1963, Porsche introduced the Type 901 as the successor of the Porsche 356 at the IAA in Frankfurt. Just one year later, with the 901 poised to go into series production, it was presented to the public eye again at the Parisian Autosalon. Peugeot intervened, because they owned the copyright for all threedigit model designations with a "0" in the middle. But before Porsche was able to make the amends, production of the Type 901 had already got off the ground on September 14, 1964, and a total of 82 units were delivered by the factory.
All of them carried the type designation "901". Subsequently, the 901 became the 911, a legendary 3-digit designation that still raises the heartbeat of every sports car enthusiast. Back in the 1950s, Porsche was rethinking the configuration of car bodies. A final design was developed by his son Ferdinand Alexander. Based on an aesthetics that emphasized clear and simple beauty, he worked out a line management that was fully in tune with the spirit of the 60s. Ferry Porsche was succinct, when he said later: "This type shaped the unique character of all Porsche sports cars." Even little boys started to dream of owning a 911 in the future. Those who were unable to afford one eventually, had received at least a miniature as a birthday present, and the treasured gift tended to be assigned a place of honour on their rack.
By now the 901, or the subsequent 911, has won an established spot in the sports car Olympus. To those that are still dreaming and essentially to all model fans CMC now offers the 901 in a most faithful and gorgeously-crafted replication. It is composed of 971 single parts. Finally the Porsche 901 has a miniature that does justice to its original and unparalleled beauty.

This racing car developed by Ferdinand Porsche wrote racing history right away like almost no other racing car had done before: In 1936 Auto Union presented with the Type C a monoposto which was almost totally different from all the other racing cars known so far. What stood out especially was the unconventional design of the sensational 16-cylinder
V-engine installed behind the driver and in front of the rear axle an innovation which soon became the accepted thing.
This high- performance racing car was above all so successful because the bullet with 520 hp was driven by a highly talented racing driver: Bernd Rosemeyer. 1936 was his most successful year when he became European Champion and won numerous Grand Prix. In 1937 the new ace of the Auto Union could keep his main competitor, Mercedes-Benz, in check as well and was able to continue his successful carreer with five further wins. At the beginning of 1938, however, his carreer came to an abrupt and tragical end by a fatal accident which occured during the try of breaking the speed world record.
After the end of the Second World War, the remaining racing cars in Zwickau had to be handed over as reparation payment to the Soviet-Union. Till now it`s not comprehensible, what exactly happend to the racing cars after that day.
The Auto Union Type C is handmounted from 1026 parts to an extra class precision model. The single parts are of high-quality materials: 23 parts are zinc die-cast, 754 of metal, copper or are photo-etched and 153 are made of plastic. The remaining 96 parts are screws, rivets or indicated screw heads.
1936 was the year of Auto Union and its young driver Bernd Rosemeyer. He became the new star in the European racing scene. It was a clash of the titans, Mercedes-Benz VS Auto Union. The GP of Germany on July 26 was just another round of that fight. The agile and highly talented Bernd Rosemeyer was able to handle the 16 cylinder v-engine powerhouse of Auto Union Type C like no one else ever had. The mid-mounted engine of the vehicle, developed by Dr. Ferdinand Porsche, broke new ground for its timeWith his starting number 4, Bernd Rosemeyer achieved a prestigious victory. His team mate Hans Stuck, also on Auto Union Type C, became 2nd. Mercedes had to leave the track with empty hands this time. Our limited edition models represents the victorious Auto Union Type C race car with starting number 4.

An ingenious eccentric, Ettore Bugatti started his factory in Molsheim, Alsace, and set the pace for the young automobile industry when he himself was still young. With his ground-breaking Type 35 in 1924, he created the superior racing car of his era, which would become the inspiration for many other models. Type 35 had his Grand Prix premiere at the European Grand Prix of Lyon/France at the 3rd of August in 1924. As of today, the Bugatti Type 35 remains the unparalleled record holder of 1,851 documented victories. Since all these victories were scored within the short period of 1924 through 1927, the Type 35 is the most successful 8-cylinder in-line engine and racing car of all times. Nicknamed "Le Patron", Ettore Bugatti is remembered as one of the most valued automobile engineers because of his exceptional talent and the new height he set for the technical design of his time. Also noteworthy are the so-called "gentlemen" drivers who steered Bugatti cars to victories with a lot of fanfare and charisma. Among those who wound up behind thesteering wheel were counts, gigolos, bohemians and adventurers. The majority of them were very wealthy. They lived in a world of luxury that featured excessive parties, startling love affairs, costly wagers as well as reckless urges to play with their lives. Take a close look at our model and be transported back to a world of extraordinary design and elegance in the 1920s the world of Ettore Bugatti. Hand-assembled from 926 parts, this miniature, which is a display of a Grand Prix racing version (without an additional spare wheel), takes a lot of experience and love of details to create. It is a fine example of the authentic replication and superior craftsmanship that only CMC can bring to you. Simply a piece of art. The trademark horse-shoe cooler, the spoke wheels made of aluminium cast, and the rectangular box-shaped engine these are just a few characteristics that make the car so very special.

Auto Union Type D, 1938
In the beginning of the year 1938 the racing team of Auto Union had to face a difficult situation: The contract with Ferdinand Porsche was cancelled, and Bernd Rosemeyer was killed in an accident in January trying to break the speed world record. Eberan von Eberhorst replaced Ferdinand Porsche as designer. And Il Diavolo Tazio Nuvolari could be won as successor for the national hero Rosemeyer. The Flying man from Mantua who got his nicknames due to his spectacular style of driving won the Grand Prix of Italy and England in an Auto Union Type D in 1938. In the following year Auto Union gained a double victory in Reims withe the drivers H.P. Müller and Schorsch Meier despite the tough competition of the Mercedes Silver Arrows. And Nuvolari gained the last Grand Prix before the Second World War with an Auto Union Type D in Belgrad on the 3rd of September in 1939. The Auto Union Type D newly defines modeling: more than 680 parts, each hand assembled, make it a collectors item par excellence. The paint of the body is of first class quality. It gives the car an excellent brilliance that is unpralleled in modeling. Item No. M-027 .

Mercedes-Benz W 196 R Streamline, 1954/55
1954. Mercedes-Benz returned after the war to the Formula-1-racing. At the premiere in Reims, three new Silver Arrows came to use and with their complete new body they caused a lot of excitement at the audience and a lot of nervouseness at their competitors. The world has never seen before such an easy cutting, elegant and streamlined racing car.
The sensation was perfect, as the Mercedes with Juan Manuel Fangio and Karl Kling realised a terrific double at the first go. Fangio became 1954/1955 double word champion, but also Kling, Stirling Moss, Hans Herrmann and Piero Taruffi were celebrated stars. They all celebrated a lot of triumphs with the streamline version and also with the parallel used W 196 Monoposto, the version with the freestanding wheels.
This story of big success ended like it began. The Grand Prix seasons last race in 1955 in Monza, Fangio was again able to win with the streamline version and starting number 18. Mercedes retired from the Formula-1-racing one more time. And the glorious era of the Silver Arrows ended.

Mercedes-Benz W 125, 1937
Various setbacks with the W 25 in 1936 moved Daimler-Benz to make decisive changes. In order not to fall behind Auto Union it was quickly decided to begin the new season with a fully revised racing car. Already at the beginning of the year 1937 the W 125 could be presented. This bolide would soon prove that Daimler-Benz had achieved a masterpiece. The German racing cars were now so advanced beyond their competitors that one could really speak of a duel between Mercedes-Benz and the Auto Union. The W 125 marked the technical zenith in the construction of racing cars.
Rudolf Caracciola drove the W 125 to four season victories and for this was proclaimed European Champion of 1937.
All parts of the W 125 are pieced together to give a valuable collectors item. The love for details can be seen in the 51 small and 27 larger metal rivets and the laying of the 41 cables and wires.

Mercedes-Benz racingtransporter, 1954
In 1954 a special and uniquely hand built vehicle appeared from the workshops of Daimer-Benz: the Mercedes-Benz racing car transporter. With its deep blue coloured Daimler-Benz paintwork, the soft curves of the chassis and a max. speed of 170 km/h it caused just as much wonderment as the racing cars W 196 and 300 SLR on the loading bed. After Daimler-Benz withdrew from Formula 1 racing at the end of 1955 this vehicle disappeared from the public view. Sadly the original was scrapped in 1967.
At the beginning of the 1990s Daimler-Benz recalled this souvenir and under the direction of the Mercedes-Benz Classic Center a replica of the original was again constructed, bringing the solitaire back to life.
On the occasion of the 100 year company anniversary parade for the brand Mercedes-Benz in 2001 the racing car transporter was presented to an exited public at the Festival of Speed in Goodwood in South England Item-No. M-036,
Scale 1:18.
